Transforminators versus Termiformers

June 1, 2009
I have vowed to provide quality content on this blog, but some things are geeky and crack me up and that’s about all that can be said about them. Such is the case with the following trailer, mashup of Terminator and Transformers:

Seeing how both me and my girlfriend are waiting impatiently for both movies, I allow myself to share this little animation here, maybe there’s more geeks around that will appreciate it.

Revolutionary Apple laptop with no keyboard

January 11, 2009
I promised you posts with more substance to it and I’ll stick to that, but sometimes there are things that are just too funny to let them pass:

This is The Onion‘s spoof of Apple news – I should perhaps write more on how well this has been made or why it’s actually so funny, but I just can’t stop snickering.

Shark gun

December 16, 2008
On a lighter note, I just recently was slapped in the face with information on Shark Gun for Wii. For a moment I thought I misheard, then I had the mental image of a gun used to hunt sharks, and then, of course, I visualised a gun that would actually be shooting sharks…

Upon closer inspection the gun from the article in question turned out to be just a crappy add-on for Wii, nothing as rad as the real shark gun (I’m using he word real quite liberally here, I know):

And then something in my brain went “plop” and it dawned on me that it was not my own insane imagination that has put the images in my mind. There actually was a game in which player would be wielding a gun that would shoot giant sharks swimming through the ground and devouring enemies (no, I don’t need dried frog pills, thank you so very much).

The game in question was Armed and Dangerous and it was not the only crazy-ass weapon that the game contained – but the most memorable, if I may hazard a guess. You can see it in action in this YouTube clip. The only thing that could make the Shark Gun more awesome would be if it was shooting sharks with lasers.

And now try to imagine how cool would it be to play Armed and Dangerous with a Shark Gun attached. A whole new level of geekiness awaits!

PS. I desperately tried to put in this text expression “to jump the shark”, but I couldn’t figure out where to put it, so…

Chaos 126p or Midget with blades

October 6, 2008
The real fun part of having a website covering something particular (in this case, digital entertainment) is that once you get recognized, you start getting tips on on the subject you specialize in. This morning my informer tipped me on the subject of a certain Half Life 2 mod, called D.I.P.R.I.P. (the abbreviation meaning Die In Pain Rest in Peace, which sounds quite cool, actually). I looked at the mod and was more or less indifferent – some Carmageddon clone, m’kay, well done, but what’s so interesting about it? Ah, said my informer, will you look at the cars, please? I looked and then a huge smile appeared on my face.

What you see on the screen above is Chaos 126p, an armoured vehicle from D.I.P.R.I.P.’s dark world. What you probably don’t know if you haven’t grown up in Poland is that it is (heavily) modified version of Fiat 126p, a small and insanely popular Polish car (meaning manufactured in Poland on FIAT’s licence):

They were small and lousy, but due to their low-cost nature and wide-spread availability one could see a lot of them around. The Polish nickname of the car, “Maluch”, loosely translates to something along the lines of “kiddie” or “midget”, which conveys how they were perceived. Looking at any of them an average person wouldn’t probably imagine its battle-hardened version, complete with spikes, guns and whatnot. So seeing this is quite funny for all of us who remember those little bugs, crawling in the grey cities of our youth.

See the mod in motion, complete with Fiat 126p introduction in the clip below:

The list of cars in the mod can be found on D.I.P.R.I.P.’s website and it’s worth noting that designs of some others are also based on some other cars from the communist era, such as Warszawa (Warsaw) or Syrena (Mermaid). Kudos for the authors for their creation – it definitely scores a couple originality points from me. Feel free to download the mod via Steam and remember that it’s completely free!

Another completely unrelated and superfluous Post Scriptum

For a long time we have planned to draw a comic with my best friend. The story would revolve around vampire hunters and one of our ideas in the graphical layer was their car, an armoured version of Fiat 126p. Now noone is going to believe us it was our original idea…

BartsNews 2.0

September 19, 2008
With all the Web 2.0 hype, I have decided that it’s time to catch up with the trends, jump on two-dot-zero train and make Barts News what is should have become long ago – a true Web 2.0 site!

Step 1 – With the help of Web 2.0 Bullshit Generator, I have come up with some buzzwords that will reflect the new Barts News functionality. The ones I like promise that my new site will “reinvent embedded weblogs” and “engage authentic feeds“. For more buzz, go here.

Step 2 – what kind of name is Barts News anyways? This Web 2.0 Name Generator will help to find a proper Web 2.0 name. In my case I chose Jadeo 2.0, probably because it echoes the name of certain actress that was my adolescent fantasy, but be sure to check some of the names it generates, because somehow they really sound Web 2.0 (additional bonus if you happen to get Leeloo name – with a cool comment).

Step 3 – Such a great new Web 2.0 name requires equally cool Web 2.0 logo – this Web 2.0 Logo Creator will assist you:

Step 4- ???

Step 5 – Profit!

Actually, I have a problem to leave my old name behind, so I think I’ll just stick it (even though Jadeo sounds cool), only remake it with cooler logo (other generator will help):

(Why shark? ‘Cause I love Wacky Wheels, that’s why!)

PS. On more serious note, there is some update to site design in the works, so stay tuned!

I choose PC

September 17, 2008
This is precisely why I own gaming PC and PSP – because I actually like games.

Thong of Justice

September 16, 2008

…and Helmet of Intimidation (+3 height) are two out of the wonderfully weird collection of items from the incoming Death Spank game.

I admit that I have not heard about the game before, but when I saw these three hilarious trailers, I immediately became interested. It doesn’t happen often that I laugh watching a trailer (last time it was Kung Fu Panda, I think), yet alone game trailer.

My interest got further boosted by the fact that working on this game is noone other but Ron Jeremy Gilbert – if the name doesn’t ring any bells, go and read this Wiki entry. Names such as Manic Mansion, Monkey Island, Penny Arcade game tell you anything? A-ha, thought so.

So, watch the trailers, download them in hi-res here if you want, and then join me in keeping the fingers crossed for this little jewel to be published, because it might just be as funny as the above mentioned classics were. “Thong of Justice“, seriously, I think a meme has just been born.

Smoke Golf on the water

August 24, 2008
The story begins in 2007 with a glitch in Xbox 360 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 game that would allow the famous player to walk on water. Smart user Levinator25 found it and made a Youtube video to show it to the world:

But was it really a glitch? Apparently not – it seems that Tiger Wood has reached living god status and, just like Chuck Norris, he can walk on water:

EA might be evil, but they certainly got good marketing folks. I’m sold. This is how you handle online critique. Flawless victory and plus ten points for Gryffindor.

Sex in videogames

July 12, 2008
From the depths of internet comes this lecture on sex in videogames, surprisingly mature and also quite funny:

The author actually makes a couple of valid points, even though last four minutes could be compressed into one. Still, he takes after Yahtzee’s Zero Punctuation, how can you not like this guy?
